Description:

|
Provides treatment
for residents, business, industry and institutions
in the City of Harrisonburg, County of Rockingham,
and the incorporated towns of Bridgewater, Dayton,
and Mt. Crawford. Design capacity is 16 MGD The
process is conventional activated sludge with single
stage nitrification followed by declining rate
gravity filters. Wastewater enters the facility via
a 54' interceptor and passes through dual mechanical
bar screens. It is then pumped to the grit removal
process (4 units) followed by primary clarification
with dissolved air flotation (4 units @100 ft
diameter); aeration (8 rectangular baffled
reactors); secondary clarification (4 units @ 116'
diameter); filtration (8 cells with 30' of
anthracite filter media; chlorination (ton gas
cylinders); de-chlorination (sulfur dioxide gas
cylinders); and cascade aeration. The Biosolids
process consists of anaerobic digestion followed by
either belt filter press dewatering (2 meter, 20%
solids) and aerated static pile composting or liquid
land application (3-5% solids). The composted
biosolids product is registered and licensed by
Virginia Dept of Agriculture.
