The Harriston
Wastewater Treatment Plant is located east of Route
340 in Harriston. From Interstate 81, take Exit 227
and turn east on Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road). Go
approximately 5.3 miles until you reach a stop sign.
Go straight for 4.7 miles and turn left onto Route
340 for 4.6 miles. Turn right onto Harriston Road
(Route 778). Go 0.4 miles and turn right onto Essex
(Route 2101). Go 0.4 miles (the road changes from
hard surface to gravel). The lagoon will be on your
right.

The Harriston
Wastewater Treatment Plant design capacity is 0.1
mgd. Preliminary treatment consists of a comminutor.
There are two lagoons with capacities of 1.3 million
gallons and 4.25 million gallons. The second lagoon
is divided into three cells (2 aeration cells and 1
quiescent polishing zone) using floating membrane
barriers. The lagoons are lined with a membrane
liner and aerated using aspirating aerators. The
effluent is chlorinated and then discharged to South
River.
