Description:
|
|
The Middle River
Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant provides
wastewater treatment for the City of Staunton and
the Verona Service Area. The design capacity is 6.8
mgd, which is comprised of 0.8 mgd from a Rotating
Biological Contactor (RBC) and 6.0 mgd from a
Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) activated sludge
train. If both treatment trains are operating, the
effluents are combined prior to disinfection and are
discharged through a common outfall to Middle River.
For the activated sludge train, the wastewater flow
enters the plant through a 36-inch gravity sewer
line into an Aqua Guard Bar/Filter Screen with
compactor. It is pumped to the influent flow
splitter box before entering the two triple-channel
oxidation ditch basins followed by secondary
clarification (3 units) and then UV disinfection.
The RBC train has a primary clarifier prior to the
RBCs followed by secondary clarification and
disinfection. The Biosolids treatment process for
both trains consist of aerobic digestion followed by
either belt filter press thickening in preparation
for land application or belt filter press dewatering
with the biosolids transported to the landfill and
mixed with soil and wood chips for a soil
augmentation program.
