Water, soap groups to study
reuse of water for irrigation
May 23 -- The Water Environment Research Foundation
and the Soap and Detergent Association have
initiated a two-phase research project to study the
safety of household water reuse for landscape
irrigation.
WERF is accepting proposals from
researchers and has made $375,000 in funds available
to study graywater chemical makeup and its impact on
soil and groundwater. Graywater is wastewater coming
from residential clothes washers, bathtubs, showers
and sinks.
The study, titled "Long-term Study on Landscape
Irrigation Using Household Graywater," does not
include water from toilets, kitchen sinks and
dishwashers.
About 7 percent of U.S. households use untreated
household graywater for landscape irrigation, but
there is very little peer-reviewed research
addressing the long-term impacts of graywater on
soil and groundwater, said Jeff Moeller, senior
program director at WERF.

Leaking Plumbing Fixtures Fact in the US
The amount of water leaking from plumbing fixtures in U.S. homes could
exceed more than 1 trillion gallons a year. Water leaked still
requires electricity to pump, supply and treat it, but it?s not being used
beneficially ? that?s a real waste of energy resources! If one out of
every ten American homes addressed their leaky plumbing fixtures, not only
would it save lots of water but it could also save more than 400
million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, avoiding approximately
315,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions ? that?s equivalent to taking nearly
55,000 cars off the road. Check http://www.epa.gov/watersense for more
information.
Town of Woodstock Grease Trap Program
http://www.townofwoodstockva.com/index.asp?NID=137
Frequency
Grease trap inspections occur
on a monthly basis pertaining to restaurants that
have been given approval to discharging into the
Town’s collection system.
Locations
Grease traps are located in
restaurants throughout Town to catch any grease from
food preparation before it reaches the collection
system.
Purpose
Inspections will ensure that
restaurants are implementing their grease removal
plan by privately contracting with a company to pump
and dispose of all grease before it reaches the
collection system.

Oil & Grease Interceptor Program (above link) in
