Description:
|
|
The newly upgraded
Stuarts Draft Wastewater Treatment Plant provides
wastewater treatment for the Stuarts Draft Service
Area. The design capacity is 2.4 mgd. The wastewater
flow enters the plant through a 12- and 21-inch
sewer line prior to entering preliminary treatment,
which is an Aqua Guard Bar/Filter Screen with a
screenings compactor. A portion of the influent flow
can be directed to a two-cell aerated flow
equalization lagoon for storage of excess flow
during wet weather conditions. The screened
wastewater is pumped to the Mixed Liquor
Distribution Box before entering the two aeration
tanks anoxic zone. The anoxic zone effluent flows
over a weir into the aerobic zone, and then flows to
the secondary clarifiers (2 units). Overflow from
the clarifiers is directed to the denitrification
filters. Alum feed facilities are provided to feed
alum to the influent to the aeration tanks or to the
mixed liquor flow to the secondary clarifiers for
chemical phosphorus removal. Effluent from the
denitrification filters flows to the ultraviolet
(UV) disinfection before being discharged into the
South River. The biosolids from the aerobic
digesters are normally pumped to a belt filter
press/gravity belt thickener (BFP/GBT) for
dewatering prior to ultimate disposal. The dewatered
biosolids are conveyed to a sludge truck loading
station and then hauled to the landfill and mixed
with soil and wood chips for a soil augmentation
program. Alternatively, the digested biosolids can
be land applied or can be hauled to the Fishersville
or Middle River WWTPs for additional treatment.
